Full house! Six UCB courses receive 100% satisfaction in National Student Survey

University College Birmingham is not only celebrating a jump in its overall satisfaction score in the National Student Survey, but six courses receiving a full house.

The University scored 84% overall in the survey in line with the national average at a time when a number of highly-ranked institutions saw large falls in their ratings.

UCB’s Childhood Studies, Health and Social Care, Youth, Community and Families*, Food and Nutrition*, Sport and Fitness Studies* and Beauty Therapy Management bachelor’s or foundation degrees all received an overall satisfaction score of 100%.

Scoring 90% or more were Hospitality and Tourism Management, Hospitality with Events Management, Marketing with Events Management, Sports Management, Bakery and Patisserie Technology, Food Development and Innovation, Professional Cookery*, Childhood Studies*, Food and Nutrition and Sports Therapy.

With 27 questions in total, UCB scored “significantly above” the national benchmark when it came to the statement, “I have received sufficient advice and guidance in relation to my course”.

In addition, 88% of UCB students who took part agreed with, “Staff are good at explaining things” in the teaching section and 86% agreed with, “I have been able to contact staff when I needed to” under academic support.

Alex Lofthouse, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) for UCB, said: “71% of UCB’s eligible students completed the survey this year and we were thrilled to see such a high level of satisfaction in so many areas.

“In particular, six courses couldn’t have fared any better, scoring 100%, which is fantastic, and we hope our results provide the information prospective students and stakeholders need to support UCB’s high-quality university experience.”

Around 330,000 students at 400 universities, colleges and other providers completed the 2019 National Student Survey, about 10,000 responses higher than last year and representing 72% of those eligible to complete the survey.

UCB raised nearly £2,000 for Student Minds through this year’s survey, organised by the Office for Students (OfS), with the University making a £2 donation to the UK charity for every response received.

Fifteen lucky UCB students also won either £250 or £500 for taking part in the survey.
