Missed the UCAS deadline?

Explore your options

Considering going to uni, but missed the main January deadline to get your application in to UCAS?

Don’t worry. We are still taking applications through UCAS for September 2023 entry – and you can also apply directly to us!

There are many reasons why you might not have already applied. You might have felt unsure about your next steps or you’ve only just decided to take this path. It might just be life has just got in the way, your journey is unique.

If today is the day you’ve made the decision to enter the world of higher education and all the exciting opportunities that brings, you can apply to UCAS right up until 30 June 2023, including EU and international students.

Something you do need to bear in mind, however, is that applications received by UCAS after the 25 January 2023 main deadline won’t get 'equal consideration'.

What is 'equal consideration'?

To avoid any unfairness, all applications received from September 2022 – when the application process opened – to the January deadline, are considered on an equal basis. They are also given the same amount of priority.

After this deadline has passed, universities don’t have to consider applications equally and only the best applications are chosen to fill the remaining spaces.

Our top tip here is to try to resist rushing your application – take your time and ensure you sell yourself to the best of your ability. Once you’re done, send off your application form through your UCAS Hub. You can sign up or log in here.

UCAS Extra

UCAS Extra is a free service for applicants who have not received any offers, or have received their offers, but don’t want to accept them.

The courses available through UCAS Extra will be confirmed by the universities and the service will be available from February until July.

What happens if I miss the 30 June deadline?

If you miss the 30 June deadline, again, you don’t need to worry. You can still apply to university, but your application will go straight into the Clearing pool.

What exactly is Clearing?

Clearing is a service provided by UCAS that enables universities to fill any places they still have left on their courses in the final few months before the new academic year starts.

Reasons you might go into Clearing:

  • Worried about your results and need a back-up plan?
  • Missed out on the entry requirements for a conditional offer? Changed your mind about what or where you’d like to study?

If the answer to any of the above is yes, then Clearing – which starts on 5 July 2023 and ends mid-October 2023 - is your additional opportunity to secure a place on a September 2023 university course.

If you want to apply to a university after this point, you will need to contact your chosen universities directly to see if they have any spots available and what their late application procedure is.

Did you know? More than 33,000 UK-based students found a place at university by going through Clearing in 2022.
