An interactive taster of our degree courses

These sessions give you and your students an interactive taster of our degree courses from our academic teaching staff. Suitable only for Year 12 and 13 students (sixth form and college). Masterclasses in the subjects listed below will be available to book starting September 2024; however, this will depend on academic availability.

Prosthetics

Do you enjoy being creative? Explore our new BA (Hons) Prosthetics for Screen and Stage with our brand new masterclass. Embark on your creative journey with our introduction to sculpture workshop! We welcome you to learn the foundational techniques in sculpting and creating texture under the guidance of experienced lecturers. You will discover the essential tools of the trade and materials used to form the basis of design and creation for prosthetics production.

Aesthetics

Looking to up skill within the beauty industry? Look no further and experience our Aesthetics degree programme at University College Birmingham! Our masterclass will give you a real insight into the industry, exploring what makes our course unique and how it sets you up for the world of work, no matter which pathway you take.

Take part in a session exploring how chemicals can impact the skin, explore our award-winning university facilities and have a tour of our clinic and even get a taste of what university life is like at University College Birmingham.

Food and Beverage

We are proud to say we’re one of the UK’s leading institutes for chefs, culinary arts, bakery science and global hospitality education. So, if you’re students are considering a career in food and hospitality, there’s no better place to give them a real taster of what they can achieve.

Our Masterclass in Food and Beverage allows students to have a go at some really practical and hands-on university-inspired challenges, whilst exploring our training kitchens and Food Science Innovation Suite.

Health

A career in health is much more than a job, it’s an extremely rewarding vocation that makes a real difference to the lives of others – so we are always delighted to hear that so many level 3 students are aspiring towards a career in the industry.

To help them to dig a little deeper into the role of a health care professional (including a Nurse, Mental Health Professional, Nursing Associate and Physiotherapist), we are hosting a series of exciting masterclasses which will explore the roles listed above within our on-site replica hospital ward.

Psychology

Looking to explore why people think, feel and behave the way they do through studying a degree in Psychology? This masterclass will demonstrate how the course is designed to help you understand problems in the real world and how psychological knowledge can be applied to help us address them. 

We are giving current sixth form/level 3 students the opportunity to participate in practical tasters around some topical issues, including how Psychology can help you to pass your driving test using our brand new driving simulator!

Business and Finance 

Are your students exploring careers in different areas of business including enterprise, management, marketing and finance? This masterclass is perfect for future 'managers in the making' who now need to find the ideal sector for them!

Students will have a go at different university-inspired business challenges relating to real-world issues and will have the opportunity to show off their skills by creating a product to pitch to our expert business lecturers.

Travel and Tourism student

Hospitality and Tourism

Through a range of practical workshops, students will experience firsthand what it's like to study at our Department of Hospitality and Tourism. Participants will explore the latest innovative technologies that are being used to transform operations across the tourism, hospitality, aviation, and event sectors, including virtual reality, robotics, and artificial intelligence!

Sport

Are your sports students looking to turn their passion into a future career? We are looking to inspire the next generation of sports professionals with a series of practical masterclasses, designed to help current level 3 students to explore the wide range of sport related careers available to them.

This will include learning how to treat athletes in our sports injury clinic, as well as running their own coaching sessions in our human performance centre!

Booking disclaimer

Please note, our events are limited in capacity and high in demand. Cancellations impact staff, resource and prevent other students from having the opportunity to engage in our activities. Please be aware all cancellations should be made in advance and at least two weeks prior to the event date. We understand extenuating circumstances can result in the need for cancellation close to the date, however, repeat cancellations may result in restriction of future bookings.
