University College Birmingham is working with Schwarzkopf to give nine students the opportunity to work alongside top stylists in the Schwarzkopf salon in London next year.

For the next nine months, 12 students from UCB’s Hair and Beauty programmes will be selected as ‘students of the month’. One of these selected students will then win the Dream Maker Award and attend a bespoke training day in the Schwarzkopf Academy in London.

The first Dream Maker Award winner is Jemma Cashmore, who is doing a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Hairdressing.

“I can’t believe that I have been given this great opportunity,” said Jemma. “I’m shocked to have won, but I’m also really pleased. I enjoy colouring techniques, so I’m particularly looking forward to creating lots of different looks and styles at the Schwarzkopf salon.”

Carol Moore, Senior Curriculum Leader at UCB, said: “I approached Schwarzkopf six months ago to look at the prospects of using their Free From Essensity hair colour range.

“As a result of that, Derek Wall and I have been working on the Dream Maker Awards so our students could attend the Schwarzkopf Academy in London to take part in a portfolio photo-shoot to create a collection of their work. All students nominated receive a Schwarzkopf goody bag and certificate to show our appreciation of all their hard work and effort.”

Derek Wall, Sales Area Manager at Schwarzkopf, said: “We have collaborated with University College Birmingham to produce a bespoke design programme that encourages students to both aspire and inspire with their salon techniques. I believe that when people go into a salon they have a dream of what they want to look like, and stylists are there to make that dream come true. This unique opportunity will enable students to increase their skills whilst getting some fantastic experience in an exciting salon atmosphere.”

The Dream Maker Awards will be taking place each month, and students are already excited and looking forward the challenge of becoming the next Schwarzkopf Dream Maker.
