Frequently asked questions
How long do tours last for?
Tours run for 1 hour and are undertaken by a student ambassador. Each tour will include all facilities across our three sites – McIntyre House, Moss House and Summer Row.
Can family and friends come along too?
We know you'll be seeking the advice and guidance of your family when making your decision, but we want to ensure all prospective students have the opportunity to visit the campus. Therefore, our campus tours are currently limited to a maximum of two guests per prospective student.
Can I attend by myself if I’m under 18 years old.
If you are under 18, you will need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
Is parking available?
We have limited parking available in the city centre at The Link building (Charlotte Street). Please use postcode B3 1JJ if using a sat nav. Please be aware that there are currently major roadworks being carried out in the area which may affect your journey.
Where is the nearest train station?
Birmingham Snow Hill and Birmingham New Street stations are a 10-minute walk from University College Birmingham. You can view a walking map here.
What if I am running late on the day?
Please call ahead on 0121 232 4300 to advise of any lateness as we have allocated a set tour, and this may result in your tour being cut short.
Will refreshments be provided?
Please be advised that no onsite catering facilities will be available on the day, but we will provide you with a guide to local cafes and restaurants you can enjoy after your visit.
Will I be able to see the accommodation?
A walking tour guide to our accommodation will be provided so you can explore the route from the university but a tour inside The Maltings will not be provided. This is because we are hosting Team Scotland for the Commonwealth Games, so have a number of preparations to get ready for the games. You can view our virtual tour here.
How do I get to the accommodation?
Information with walking directions to our accommodation will be provided when you register for your campus tour. Walking to see our accommodation is a great way to get a feel for and to see part of the city centre. Please register when you arrive for your campus tour at McIntyre House before visiting the accommodation.
Will I be able to speak with members of the teaching team?
Our campus tours only include a tour of our campus. If you would like to find out more about your course of interest, our student ambassadors and marketing team members will be happy to answer any questions you may have. You may also like to attend our next open day, where you can attend a course presentation and talks and drop-in sessions from other services within the University. To find out about our upcoming open days, click here.
Do you have support for visitors with a disability?
I have a question about accommodation, will there be anyone I can speak to?
Our accommodation team or wider Student Services team, based at The Link campus building, may be on hand throughout the campus tours to answer questions you may have. Please make your student ambassador aware that you would like to speak with them, and they will build this into your tour for you.
