Sian Thornton

I originally studied Makeup and Hair Design for Film Photography and Music at Southampton Solent University where I graduated with a BA Hons. From university I moved onto teaching part-time on the Level Three VTCT diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Media Hair and Make Up whilst balancing my own freelance business specifically working with the commercial media make up setting. During this time I also completed my Post Graduate Certificate in teaching and learning for vocational subjects. In 2013, I joined University College Birmingham as a full-time member of staff on the FdA / BA Specialist Hair and Media Make Up programme. My key responsibilities include module leading the Final Major Project which is the optional module against the traditional research project for level 6 SHMM students and being Year Manager for the level 5 BA SHMM students. I am also an external examiner for the FdA Fashion, Theatrical and Media Make Up and Hair degree and Leeds City College.
