My career within the hair and make-up industry began when I pursued an Apprenticeship in Hairdressing NVQ Level 2, which later developed to studying BA (Hons) Specialist Hair and Media Make-up at University College Birmingham. During my second year of study at UCB, I became self-employed and specialised in hair styling and airbrush make-up for weddings as well as providing cutting, colouring and hair extension services. On graduating from UCB with a first class honours in 2015, I was offered a Graduate Teaching Assistant position which lead to my current role as a full time lecturer in 2016. During my employment, I have been fortunate to continue freelancing which has allowed me to work as part of the hair and make-up department on feature films including The Girl with all The Gifts, The Mummy (2017) and Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One.
Innovations within Make-up Artistry, Postiche for Performers, Period Hair and Make-up (module leader) and Final Major Project tutor.
Research interests and scholarly activity
My research interests include psychology, teaching and learning, and management and leadership.
During my free time I continue my freelance work, offering cutting and colouring services, hair styling and make-up artistry for weddings. I have also been fortunate enough to work with well-known photographers and independent fashion designers/clothing brands in creating the hair and make-up looks to support their collections.
