Profile
My role as a lecturer includes teaching on a variety of modules at Level 4, 5 and 6, but predominantly The Fundamentals of Postiche Design, On-Set Skills, Editorial Imagery, Innovations and Enterprise Studies and Period Hair and Make-up. I am the module leader for The Fundamentals of Postiche Design and Final Major Project, and tutor students studying this module at Level 6. I am an internal moderator and a mentor for new staff members.
My career within the hair and make-up industry began when I pursued an Apprenticeship in Hairdressing NVQ Level 2, which later developed to studying BA (Hons) Specialist Hair and Media Make-up at University College Birmingham. During my second year of study at the University, I became self-employed and specialised in hair styling and airbrush make-up for weddings as well as providing cutting, colouring and hair extension services. On graduating from University College Birmingham with a first class honours in 2015, I was offered a graduate teaching assistant position which led to my current role as a full-time lecturer in 2016. During my time as a lecturer at the University, I have had the privilege of undertaking the role of Level 6 year manager and interim Deputy Head of Department of Creative Industries.
Throughout my employment, I have been fortunate to continue freelancing which has allowed me to work as part of the hair and make-up department on feature films and TV series including The Girl with all the Gifts, The Mummy (2017), Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One and more recently, Bridgerton and the BBC's Sister Boniface. I also work with regular clientele in carrying out a wide range of hairdressing and make-up services for weddings and other celebrations.
