UCB partners with QHotels to develop management talent

Read time: approx 1 mins

UCB held an induction day for professionals in the hospitality sector working towards a foundation degree in Professional Hospitality Operational Management Level 4.

This is part of a collaborative programme between QHotels and the university that is aimed at people working in the hospitality industry wanting to ascend the management ladder. The students work in hotels from all around the UK – from Ashford, Kent to Cumbernauld just outside of Glasgow.

UCB helps to develop the modules of study, manage assessments and provides up-to-date information on current issues in the day-to-day management of hotels and leisure facilities and the important attributes needed to develop the next generation of managers.

The knowledge that these students will gain is highly-practical and the students can begin applying it to their professional roles immediately, such as modules on finance, development planning and how to maximise profitability.

This initiative helps the university to promote academic activity to people working in the hotel industry whilst building professional relationships with the sector to improve student access to professional placements and potential future employment. It is also beneficial for the university’s academic profile.

Rob Swinnock, UCB’s Assistant Dean of the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Events Management

This Level 4 qualification is now in its fourth year and has been extremely successful. As a result of this course, many of the students have since been promoted and they are looking forward to developing themselves further, both in education and in their career.
