Read time: approx 1 mins

Level 3 Food and Beverage Service student Sam Berry has secured full-time employment at Gleneagles Hotel, the luxury spa and golf resort in Scotland.

Sam will begin his career as a commis waiter in the hotel’s main restaurant, The Strathern, where he will serve customers and help with formal business events and private functions.

He will receive on-the-job training with the aim of winning promotion to the role of restaurant manager.

Sam said: “I received an email from my lecturer, Andrew Bisconti, which let me know of the opportunity. It appealed to me straight away and, after speaking with my lecturers and my family, I decided to apply for the role.

“I’ve lived local to Birmingham all my life, so a move to Scotland is a very big change. However, it was too good an opportunity to pass up and my lecturers have been very supportive.”

Sam has been on a fabulous journey with UCB. His practical skills have developed and he has grown into a mature and professional individual. As soon as I saw the position advertised through hired@UCB, I knew he would be the perfect candidate. Sam’s story is a testament to the diverse opportunities the front of house industry can offer if you are dedicated, flexible and willing to take new opportunities. It is always a great pleasure to see our students progressing into industry or higher education.

Sam will move to Scotland after completing his course and starts his job in July.
