Proud Harriet wears UCB uniform while on placement in Texas

Customers at a Texan bakery got to experience the best UCB has to offer when a trainee spent two weeks cooking up a storm.

Harriet Watson undertook a work placement at Ye Olde English Bakery and Deli in the city of Temple. Her visit coincided with both the presidential election and the lead up to Thanksgiving – making it one of the bakery’s busiest periods.

Eighteen-year-old Harriet from Atherstone, who proudly wore her UCB uniform during the placement, said: “I made hundreds of cupcakes iced with the American flag for the election and biscuits in the shape of turkeys for Thanksgiving. It was such a great experience and I would urge other students to take every opportunity they can.”

Harriet joined UCB’s Level 2/3 Bakery course two years ago after starting A levels and quickly realising they were not for her. She added: “I’m dyslexic and have always struggled with writing and exams. I needed to do something more practical. I’ve always loved bakery and taught myself by watching videos online. Now I’m getting all the support I need at UCB.”

UCB’s Bakery Level 2 and 3 courses enable students to develop advanced practical skills in bread and confectionery in our state-of-the-art onsite bakeries.
