Omari is set for safari success

Read time: approx 1 mins

Omari Bakari is currently studying BSc International Tourism Management and is learning all he can about the international tourism landscape in order to boost his safari business back in Tanzania, Africa.

I did a lot of research into different universities before selecting the one I wanted to go to. I chose UCB because the tourism courses were very specific and focused on certain areas, which is exactly what I wanted from my course.

I’ve enjoyed everything about my course so far – it’s well-structured and all the modules have been very interesting. I’m particularly interested in learning how to improve tourism websites and promoting via social media. The lecturers, particularly Kathryn Bell, have been very helpful.

Before coming to UCB, I was a safari and mountain guide in Tanzania, Africa. I am studying at this university to gain a deeper knowledge of the tourism industry to help me build on my on my safari business, Greenshank Adventure Ltd. I’ve been building my business for over four years. I want to make safaris more widely-accessible and affordable to tourists around the world. I also enjoy helping and working with people, and this business enables me to combine two of my passions.

I love learning about different cultures and how to communicate with people around the world. I have learned many things from my Social Media in Tourism module, particularly using social media to target new customers and demographics. It’s a very important promotional tool.

My advice to those interested in pursuing a career in tourism is to love what you do, and do it with all your heart. Tourism is not just about the travelling – there are many different elements you need to consider in order to succeed.

If you’ve always wanted to go on safari, take a look at Omari’s website at www.greenshankadventure.com.
