New era for social media at UCB

Read time: approx 1 mins

The University is revamping and expanding its social media channels to give students, staff and the wider community a better insight into life at UCB.

Twitter and Facebook get a fresh new look and enhanced coverage. The University has also launched new accounts on the picture-focused platforms Pintrest and Instagram.

To celebrate the launch of the new social media feeds, we are holding a picture competition, to be hosted on Pintrest and promoted across all our platforms. A £50 shopping voucher is up for grabs for the student whose picture best sums up the phrase: “What UCB means to me.”

The University’s main Twitter account has been recently re-named @UCBofficial. It now runs alongside 11 other UCB Twitter accounts – the majority of them new – reflecting the range of study and activities pursued at both Summer Row and Richmond House.

All of the accounts carry the prefix @UCB and reflect news, interests and curriculum developments across the five schools: Hospitality, Tourism and Events; the College of Food; Business; Education and Community; and Sport and Creative Services.

The vocational aspect of many of the University’s courses – both in further education and at degree level – means there is great scope on social media for posting pictures. Images can of course be posted on Twitter but we have set up two new accounts – on Pintrest and Instagram – to capitalise on the wealth of potential picture content associated with UCB.

The pictures might capture the development of course work and on-going assessments, or relate to visits and live projects, which might be locally in the West Midlands, across the UK or internationally. Maybe you are a tourism undergraduate or a food service student heading to an exciting destination. We would love to see your pictures – and hear your news.

To mark the launch of UCB’s Pintrest  and Instagram  , and to get everyone engaged with our new social media activity, we are holding a fun photo competition.

Just take a picture that you think epitomises “What UCB means to me” and email it to Stephanie Galloway in Marketing: s.galloway@ucb.ac.uk

We have created a picture gallery on Pintrest and the best images will be posted here.

We would also love you to tweet your pictures, using the hashtag #MyUCB

But don’t forget – to enter the competition you also need to email the picture to us at s.galloway@ucb.ac.uk

Entries should be submitted by Monday, April 7 (please click here for terms and conditions.)

The winner will receive Love2shop vouchers worth £50, which are accepted in 20,000 high street stores, including House of Fraser, River Island, New Look and Waterstones. They can also be redeemed at restaurants and attractions.

We have also revamped the University’s two Facebook pages.

The page dedicated to undergraduates and postgraduates is called University College Birmingham and can be found here

The Facebook page for further education, University College Birmingham 14-19 Students, can be found here Facebook
