Media Make-up students are "In a World of Our Own"

Read time: approx 1 mins

Specialist Hair and Media Make-up students held a creative showcase at The Crescent Theatre, Birmingham, to demonstrate their skills to a live audience.

The event, “In a World of Our Own,” was part of the Creative Showcase module which enables students to apply creative and practical skills to a particular theme. The module also provides an opportunity to develop management skills through the organisation of an event.

The students were required to research the components required to plan a large event. In order to manage the project efficiently, they decided on assigned management roles covering marketing, design, promotions, communications and health and safety.

On the night, the students presented four hair and make-up themes: Twisted Fairy Tales; The Four Seasons; Seven Sins and Seven Virtues; and Around the World.

“Everyone was nervous during the rehearsals and preparations,” said Sian Atkinson, one of the students responsible for marketing the event. “But when the time came to perform, I think everyone would agree it was a huge success.

“Each group pulled out all the stops with the hair, make-up and costumes to put on an amazing show. We are so grateful to everyone who attended and hope that they enjoyed themselves.”

Steve Underhill, Specialist Hair and Media Make-Up lecturer, said: “After working closely with the students for the last 10 weeks, I am really proud of the final show they produced. Working with such a large group – nearly 80 students – I watched them overcome lots of obstacles to stage a fantastic showcase for themselves as make-up artists.

“They have certainly helped to put UCB’s Specialist Hair and Media Make-Up course on the map.”
