Media Make-up student becomes Worcester royalty

FdA Specialist Hair and Media Make-up student Fern Tilley used her artistic talents to transform herself into Her Majesty the Queen for a charity fundraiser. 

Fern, who lives in Rainbow Hill, Worcester, is a finalist for Miss Black Country 2015. At the same time, she is also doing her bit for charity and raising money for the Miss World charity Beauty with a Purpose by dressing up as Elizabeth II for a day. 

“I am a beauty queen hopeful turning herself into the actual Queen,” said Fern. “I’ll be borrowing my little sister’s tiara and will spend the entire day as her Majesty. 

“So if the postman rings the doorbell or when I need a pint of milk, I’ll be doing the royal wave to all my subjects.” 

A part of being a Miss Black Country finalist involves raising money for charity and raising the profile of the area. Participants must also learn to walk on the catwalk and develop their public speaking and interview techniques. 

“I entered the pageant because I thought it would be a great challenge for me,” said Fern. “I like doing things that push me out of my comfort zone to make me more confident. 

“My little sister really looks up to me, so I thought doing a pageant where I can help charities and compete for the Miss Black Country crown would make me a great role model.” 

The Miss Black Country 2015 final will be held in Dudley on Sunday 24 May. If she is successful, Fern will have the chance to compete for the title of Miss England.
