Lecturer Harprit nominated for British Indian Award

Harprit Thacker, UCB’s Assistant Director for Teaching and Learning, says she is “thrilled” after being nominated for a British Indian Award for her exceptional contribution to education.

Established in 2011, the Awards pay tribute to the accomplishments of the UK’s extensive first- and second-generation British Indian population, and their outstanding contributions to the wider community.

Following a number of years lecturing on UCB’s spa-related courses, and overseeing the activity of all beauty courses in the University’s School of Sport and Creative Services as an assistant dean, Harprit recently progressed to her post as Assistant Director of Teaching and Learning.

While Harprit’s current role makes her responsible for enhancing the quality of teaching and learning across all areas, she has remained highly active within the spa industry, retaining UCB’s outstanding links with local businesses and ensuring the University’s spa-related curriculum remains as cutting-edge as possible.

Additionally, Harprit has led two large-scale EU projects on spa research, and continues to represent UCB on a number of boards and as a consultant for a range of spa companies.

“I am thrilled to have been nominated,” said Harprit, who was born in Britain to two Indian parents. “I have been at UCB for a long time, and while I have always loved what I do, it is still so nice to have my work recognised.”

With 25 categories overall, Harprit’s fellow nominees for their contribution to education include Dame Asha Kemka OBE, Principal of West Nottinghamshire College, and Jaideep Prabhu, Professor of Business and Enterprise at the Judge Business School within the University of Cambridge.

Nominations are kept anonymous and can come from students, colleagues, or simply members of the public who wish to recognise the hard work of an individual or business. Winners will be announced on 11 July, in a glamorous ceremony with drinks and dinner organised by Oceanic Consulting.
