Hospitality students at UCB will be spurred on by news that 20,000 new rooms are to be added to the UK's hotel supply by the end of 2017[1].

Ahead of its forthcoming careers fair in London on Friday, May 19, The Institute of Hospitality has revealed that the hotel sector is set to continue to boom.

While 7,000 of these new rooms are due to open in London, with net hotel supply in the capital rising by 17%, the forecast for the rest of the UK also looks bright.

Gary Wood, Dean of UCB’s School of Hospitality, Tourism and Events Management, said continued expansion in the sector was great news for hospitality students.

“These are unpredictable times and positive news like this from the respected Institute of Hospitality is a great motivator to our students here at UCB. It really is an exciting time to be entering the industry, with its wealth of career paths and brands to choose from.

“I will also be encouraging our best and brightest to attend the institute’s fair in May as one of the best opportunities to be spotted by some of the finest employers in the field.”

With UCB being part of the institute’s Education Membership Scheme, hospitality students at the University are invited to attend the careers fair in Pall Mall, London, in May, which is free to attend, although you must register for a place.

More than 30 businesses are set to be represented, including The Ritz London, Firmdale Hotels, Shangri-La, The Dorchester Collection, The Edition, Hyatt Hotels, Nadler Hotels and Zetter Hotels, who will all be on the look-out for their next protégés.

New hotel businesses actively recruiting will include L'Oscar, a 39-bedroom luxury hotel in Holborn designed by famous French designer Jaques Garcia, due to open this year.

The 2.3bn UK contract catering sector will be represented by BaxterStorey (WSH), CH&Co, Levy Restaurants and Buffalo Catering. Award-winning restaurant employers recruiting at the event include Corbin & King and the Roof Gardens and Babylon (Virgin).
