STUDENTS from EU countries starting undergraduate and master’s courses in the UK in 2018/19 will be eligible for grants and loans, the government has confirmed.

UCB’s Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Ray Linforth welcomed news that funding will be available for students even if their course finishes after the UK's exit from the European Union.

He said: “The government has already guaranteed this vital financial support system to those starting in the 2017/18 academic year, and extending this to 2018/19 will greatly help to reassure EU students who want to study in the UK without having to pay up-front tuition fees.

“European and international students are a hugely valuable part of cultural and academic life at University College Birmingham and they play an important role within the city, creating jobs and supporting local businesses.

“This decision will enable us to continue to attract the best talent from across the globe.”
