Imagine landing your dream job before you have even finished your degree. For hard-working UCB student Hannah Parry that scenario has become a reality.
When she completes her Bakery and Patisserie Technology BSc (Hons) in May, Hannah will take up a full-time position as a Bakery Research Technologist with the internationally renowned company AB Mauri.
The 20-year-old from Leeds puts her success down to hard-work, the power of networking and the support of her lecturers at UCB.
Just days after interviewing for the job, Hannah found herself face-to-face with Andrew Pollard, the Managing Director of AB Mauri, after winning a place at a prestigious industry event. She explained: “I was encouraged to apply and interview for a place on a short course run by The Worshipful Company of Bakers. I won the place and was also invited to the Association of Bakery Ingredient Manufacturer’s annual meeting, where I met and started chatting to Andrew. A week later I’m proud to say I was offered the job.”
AB Mauri is a global business dedicated to the baking industry. It has 55 plants, a presence in 34 countries and sales in more than 90 countries.
Dawn Gemmell, Assistant Dean of UCB’s College of Food, said: “Hannah has done brilliantly well to get a job before she’s even finished the course. She is really making a name for herself in the industry and I know she has a bright future ahead of her.”
UCB’s Bakery and Patisserie Technology degree has been developed in consultation with industry experts to provide students with the high level of technical and managerial skills needed to succeed at senior management level or as a business entrepreneur.
