Bakery students provide 'elf service' at anniversary show

Read time: approx 1 mins

Dozens of Christmas elves made an appearance at a recent show at the NEC and it was all down to the efforts of a group of our Bakery Level 3 students.

The wonderful sugarpaste creations greeted visitors to the hugely popular Cake International which was celebrating its 25th anniversary with more than 2,000 amazing cake and sugar displays from around the world.

Our bakers were also among the winners and Sam Dowle, Assistant Dean of Bakery Patisserie in the College of Food, said the event was a huge success.

“We had a UCB stand making elves out of sugarpaste which was sponsored by Renshaws,” she explained. “Students assisted with the demonstrations and the feedback we had was fantastic.

“The cake competition was open to everyone and not just students so it was fantastic that we were successful with some of the entries. I am very proud of them and also of those who helped on the day – they represented the college very well.”

Among the competition winners, Rebecca Moore won silver and there were bronze awards for Katrina Penavega, Lucy Healey and Elissa Jones. Merit awards were presented to Charlotte Ingram, Rianna Lea, Charlie Mander and Kai Murray.
