A day of celebration for graduating students

Read time: approx 1 mins

One thousand students will graduate at Symphony Hall Birmingham on Friday 20 September as the University College Birmingham (UCB) annual Awards Congregations get underway.

Three ceremonies will see students celebrate their achievements with family and friends, when collecting awards for foundation degrees, degrees and postgraduate qualifications.

Five Memorial Awards will be presented to students who have either made a significant contribution to the life of the University or have overcome challenging times to complete their studies.  They will each receive £200 and a certificate.

A further ten students will be celebrated as Academic prize winners for exceptional achievements in their studies and University life, each receiving a certificate and a sponsored prize.

New for this year, an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Birmingham will be awarded to Michelin star chef and restaurateur Andreas Antona of Simpsons who is a longstanding member of the UCB Corporation and who has mentored many young chef students.

Three Honorary Fellowships will be awarded to individuals who also have longstanding associations with UCB.

It is always a wonderful occasion to see students celebrating their hard work and achievements with their family and friends. Whether carrying on to further studies or taking up a new job, graduation day is the next step for students in their exciting life journey and we wish them all great success and happiness as they move forward
