Jessica Dalton

Bakery Level 2 and Level 3

Baking industry’s ‘Rising Star’

Jessica Dalton started her journey in amazing cakes and bakes - even some for the royal family - as a college student at University College Birmingham, and keeps on rising to the occasion.

Going on to complete a degree in Bakery and Patisserie Technology, she was notably presented with the Rising Star Award at the national Baking Industry Awards – the industry’s ‘Oscars’ - by stage star Denise Van Outen in front of more than 700 industry guests.

She has also won The British Society of Baking Trophy at the Alliance for Bakery Students and Trainees awards, not mentioning making chocolates for Sophie, Countess of Wessex.

Jessica, who today works as a degree apprentice at the University and is a confectioner at a small craft bakery, said she chose University College Birmingham because of its reputation.

“I am more of a practical person than academic and originally applied for the chef course, but when I came for the open day, I sided more towards bakery,” she said.

“My tutor at college always encouraged me to complete competitions and work experience. I was also an in-house Level 3 apprentice and from that, I really was able to build on my skills and my speed of working too.”
