UCB's Employability Week success

Read time: approx 1 mins

From the 17th-19th February, UCB’s College of Food held an Employability Week for VRQ Level 3 Chef Diploma students. The aim of this was to allow students to learn more about how their practical skills can be applied in the world of work world and gain an insight into the career opportunities available for them.

The day featured a range of presentations from successful chefs – some of who are UCB alumni. Presentations included masterclasses on how to cook meats, prepare sauces and how to present a first-class dish. Throughout the presentation the chefs took questions from students, giving them advice and sharing their professional experiences.

Guests included Group Chef Warren Geraghty and co-owner Jeff Galvin of Galvin Restaurants (based in London), Head Chef of Hampton Manor in Meriden (and UCB alumni) Ryan Swift, Executive Chef of Butlers Birmingham Wharf Chop House Andrew Holmes (also a UCB alumni), and Head Chef Michael Bullard and General Manager Simon Murphy of West Bromwich Albion Football Club. The students also had an opportunity to attend an informative Q&A session with UCB’s own food critic and journalist Richard McComb.
