Read time: approx 1 mins

From left to right: Dan Clarke (Marketing Officer), Christalla Theodoulou (Sports and Societies Officer), Ardjana Gjoni (International Officer), Zoey Harris (Guild President), Hannah Roberts (Vice-President) Rebecca Hoy (Entertainments Officer), Sean Smith (FE Officer).

The committee was elected by fellow students to help them get the most out of their time at UCB.

Students enrolling at UCB automatically become members of the Guild of Students. The Guild ensures the diversity of its members is recognised, and works with UCB to help deliver the best university experience possible for every student. It aims to make students’ transition to UCB as enjoyable as possible and look after their welfare.

The Guild speaks on behalf of students on a range of issues. This can either be for groups of students or individual students with specific issues. The Guild is there to listen, be a voice for students and lobby for change or improvements.

The Guild of Students offers guidance and advice on many issues regarding not only university life but also social and personal situations. If the Guild can't help, it will point students in the direction of someone who can.

A high profile element of The Guild's activities is the organisation of a full programme of events and activities throughout the academic year.

The principal aims of the Guild are:

  • to represent the student body within University College Birmingham.
  • to provide guidance and advice to students.
  • to organise an ongoing programme of social and sporting activities to ensure that students get the best from their time at UCB.

Sports and Societies

The Guild currently facilitates a wide range of sports, societies and student events from adventure sports to zumba, food societies to international societies and Freshers Fortnight to the Summer Ball.

If you know of any students who might be thinking of starting up their own society, do encourage them to get involved as the Guild is always eager to support new student initiatives.

For more information, speak to a member of the Guild on the ground floor of Summer Row campus or email guildpresident@ucb.ac.uk
