UCB has been awarded the prestigious title of College of the Year by the National Hairdressers’ Federation Awards 2014 (Central England).

Due to hairdressing students nominating UCB for the category, the university was successfully shortlisted for the award back in March. Thanks to current and former students voting on the NHF website over the past couple of months, UCB was awarded this outstanding accolade (and a sparkling trophy) at the award ceremony on Monday 19th May 2014.

Helen Scanlon, UCB’s Hair and Beauty Placement Tutor, said: “I would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all the Hairdressing team who attended the awards and witnessed our wonderful success. Well done to all the staff whose support and nurturing of our young talent has ensured their votes for UCB and made us Central England’s College of the Year!”

Hairdressing students also took part in an inter-college competition and showed just how talented UCB students really are. The results were as follows:

Nathan Boltz – 1st place for Cut and Blow Dry category

Adidiath Gouthon-Koufeidi – 1st place for Avant Garde category

Jade Malvo – 2nd place for Avant Garde category

Wattusa Simpson – 3rd place for Avant Garde category

"The students have given up many hours of their own time to practice,” said Helen. “They made all their hair pieces and even their models’ costumes. We have some amazing talent here at UCB.”

UCB’s past winners in the NHF Awards include Carole Moore (Lecturer of the Year, 2012), Rhianna Younis (Student of the Year, 2011), and Nariko Nagase (Most Promising Newcomer, 2011).
