UCB Chefs Victorious at British Cookery Championships

University College Birmingham student and staff Chefs are victorious after winning an incredible amount of awards at the British Cookery Championships, held as part of The Hospitality Show this week.        

UCB's victories on the day, despite the snow which threatened to put a stop to their entry, included:        

Thomas Downes - BA (Hons) Culinary arts Management student received 2 Gold Medals, 2 Best in Class Plates, Certificate of Merit & 2 Gold medals & certificate for Hygiene & Best Overall Junior Chef Hygiene Award of the show.         

Edward Marsh - VRQ level 2 Student received 1 Silver Medal, 1 Best in Class Plate, 1 Gold Medal & certificate for Hygiene.        

And as well as the individual awards UCB received - Overall Best Hygiene Award of the day, Essential Cuisine Chef Team of the Year Trophy, Villeroy & Boch - 6 Pasta dishes, Best Overall Junior Chef Hygiene Award of the show & Best Overall Senior Chef  Hygiene Award of the Show and UCB has been invited to the House of Commons to received the trophies.        

Chef Mentor/Lecturer Mathew Shropshall also received 2 Gold Medals, 1 Silver Medal, 3 Best in Class Plates, 1 Bronze Medal, 1 Certificate of Merit, 4 Gold Medals & certificates for Hygiene and Best Overall Senior Chef Hygiene Award of the show.        

Congratulations to all the award winner and special thanks go to Chef Lecturer Alan Oliver who helped to prepare all the ingredients, Chef Lecturer David Hanlon who supported with the equipment set-up and Chef Lecturer Tony Wright who supported the mentorship.
