Marketing students at University College Birmingham have been praised for their outstanding performance by a prestigious professional body.

The Awarding Body at The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) has commended UCB for the excellent standard of results achieved for assessments submitted in the June 2015 assessments session for the Marketing Principles module of the Foundation Certificate in Marketing.

Eight undergraduates on the FdA/BA (Hons) Marketing Management and FdA/BA (Hons) Marketing with Events Management programmes have been studying for the CIM’s professional qualification alongside their main degree. The internationally-recognised Foundation Certificate in Marketing is designed to underpin students’ academic degree.

UCB has been affiliated to the CIM for three years and this is the first time students’ work has been commended.

Beverley Compaore, assistant dean in the Business School, hopes the CIM’s ringing endorsement will encourage more students on the two degree programmes to sign up for the Foundation Certificate.

Beverley said: “It is a qualification from the leading marketing professional body in the world. By having an academic degree and a professional qualification from the CIM, it is predicted you have a 9% increase in the chance of being employed.”

Completion of the Foundation Certificate enhances an individual’s main degree by bolstering a CV for placement interviews and providing opportunities to network with professionals and attend events.

The deadline for the next round of applications to join the CIM qualification at UCB is Wednesday (November 25). Interested students should email Pamela Watson-Bateman: P.Watson-Bateman@ucb.ac.uk
