The winner and runner-up of the West Midlands Regional Final of FutureChef 2015 will be attending UCB as Professional Cookery students in September this year.

15-year-olds Carl Risdale and Mohammed Iqbal, the latter mentored in this competition by our own Mat Shropshall, are taking their success as young chefs to the next level by enrolling onto a Level 1 in Professional Cookery at UCB in order to build on their talent and start their culinary career.

Having won the Regional Final, Carl is now setting his sights on the National Final, and could follow in the footsteps of the National Futurechef Winner 2011, Jess Higgins, who is currently in the final year of a Food and Consumer Management Degree at UCB.

“The standard in this competition is very high,” said the young chef. “It’s great to be a part of and I’m very pleased to have won this Regional.”

It’s so encouraging to know that there is a new generation of chefs with the talent to succeed in this wonderful industry.

Springboard’s FutureChef competition is a nationwide culinary initiative run by The Springboard Charity that helps young people aged 12-16 to learn to cook, explore food and develop vital life skills. It develops culinary skills, educates about food provenance, health and safety and food hygiene and informs about entry routes to worthwhile careers in hospitality.
