A group of Business Enterprise students made a big splash at the 8th annual Midlands Business Awards ceremony at the Hilton Hotel on 28 February 2014.

Prior to the event, the Midlands Business Awards asked UCB to help review future plans for the awards. It was up to groups of final year Business Enterprise students to undertake a live project reviewing the Midlands Business Awards’ marketing strategies as part of their Contemporary Entrepreneurial Studies module.

Tutors Paul Matthews and Simon Blake developed the ground assessment exercise to give their students an insight into the challenges of being an entrepreneur in such a competitive and dynamic events environment.

There were two groups that particularly stood out to assessors in this live project, and they won the opportunity to attend the Midlands Business awards ceremony, hosted in the NEC.

Harj Sandher, the Founder of Midlands Business Awards, said “The rigour and creativity shown by all the students, the two winning groups in particular, was very impressive and they are a credit to the university.”

On the night, Sandher opened the ceremony with a special mention for UCB. He thanked UCB for supporting the awards and congratulated the winning Business Enterprise students who attended as guests. Accompanying the students was Melanie Shaw (Assistant Dean of the Business School) and Richard Riley (University Secretary), who has been an awards judge since 2011 and chair of the judging panel for 2014.
