Read time: approx 1 mins
You may have heard about the current Universities and Colleges Union (UCU) industrial action involving strikes by teaching staff that will be taking place in February and March 2018 and which will affect many universities. We would like to reassure students and parents that at University College Birmingham, there is no strike action planned to take place and, therefore, lectures and other student activities will not be affected during this period.
The industrial dispute centres on pensions and the Universities UK’s proposal to end the defined benefit element of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS). Our teaching staff are part of different pension arrangements.
Our academic staff have chosen not to strike and, therefore, no timetabled activity will be interrupted. We will continue to ensure that our students receive outstanding teaching and support throughout their studies.
Should you require any further information regarding the strike, please refer to the Universities UK website http://www.universitiesuk.ac.uk/.
