Motivated former UCB student Lin Wu has her sights set high after being appointed Assistant Manager of a luxury hotel group.

The 26-year-old arrived at UCB from Ningbo in China just five years ago. Since then she has achieved a first class degree in Hospitality and Business Management and passed with distinction a Masters in Tourism Business Administration.

Now she’s secured a top position working for QHotels, which has 26 four-star hotels across the country. Lin is working at The Stratford, one of two QHotels based in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Lin, who speaks three languages and hopes to learn more, said the support she received from UCB’s careers team boosted her confidence. She added: “I’m a modest person and I always think I need to do better. It’s a good attitude as it pushes me to achieve more.”

Her ultimate ambition is to be General Manager of a hotel group. In the meantime, her next goal is to join colleagues from QHotels when she completes the Wolf Run obstacle course. The fundraising event, which takes place in Leamington in September, will raise money for the NSPCC.

Natasha Lawson-Hollingworth, UCB’s Employer Engagement and Alumni Officer, said Lin had benefited from using Hired, the University’s employability service. She added: “Lin really took advantage of all the support we have to offer. The position with QHotels was advertised via JobShop. Lin was able to work with  Hazel Foggin, our Employability Manager - Careers, to make sure she was well-prepared for the interview process. We wish her every success.”
