Guild of Students has new executive team…and charity status!
The University’s Guild of Students has voted in its new executive team for 2018-19, bolstered by the potentially game-changing news that it has received charity status.
Including a new Sustainability Officer role, the team that will represent both further and higher education students for the next academic year are:
- President - Ross Loveitt (starts full-time week commencing 21 May)
- Vice President for Education and Representation - Emma-Jane Burness
- Vice President for Activities and Development - Zara Saddiq
- Vice President for Welfare and Communities - Joe Wassell
- International Students’ Officer - Fatima Rose Unica
- Sustainability Officer - Daniel Harvey
The Guild’s application to become a registered charity has also just been approved, which will help with recognition for fundraising and open up more opportunities for grant funding.
Ellen Kemp, Guild of Students manager at UCB, said: “The team that has been voted in to represent students in the next academic year is a proactive, enthusiastic and forward-thinking one. We can’t wait to see the opportunities, initiatives and activities they will pursue for the benefit of our student body, from societies and clubs development to social events.
“They also have an exciting year ahead with our recent registration as a charity, something which enable the Guild to grow, and assisting with planning the Guild’s move into UCB’s new Moss House building in the Jewellery Quarter, which opens at the end of 2019.
“We still have a few voluntary roles left to fill, if interested students want to get in touch.”
Every student that enrols at UCB automatically becomes a member of the Guild of Students, helping both college and degree level students make the move away from home and relocate to a new city, as well as adapt from the familiar comforts of their friends and family.
“The Guild is here to help and work for students during their time at UCB,” said Ellen. “If they have a problem, a challenge, an idea or a passion we can assist with, our door is always open. Ultimately, student involvement is vital for the ongoing progression of the University.”
