Employers' praise for UCB careers event

More than 500 students poured into McIntyre House for this year’s Employer Extravaganza – and it turned out to be the biggest and best yet.

Stretched over three floors, 52 employers from a range of industries took part with many of them involved in the UCB event for the first time.

Among those making their debut were the Royal Navy, The Cooperative Group, Little Pioneers Nursery, DHL and Tesco while staff from Claridges Hotel Group made the journey up from London and representatives from Club Med flew in from France.

Vicki Chamberlain-Burman, from Tesco, said the company was already looking forward to future Employer Extravaganzas at UCB.

She said: “The careers event was a fantastic opportunity for us to talk to a wide audience of people. The students were all enthusiastic and curious about the career opportunities in our Tesco stores and we engaged in lots of conversations.

“We were very well looked after and definitely interested in attending similar events going forward.”

It took four months to arrange the latest event and Sabath Shazia, Employer Engagement Officer in hired@UCB, said she hoped that next year’s event would be just as successful.

She explained: “Having so many employers the calibre of Tesco and the Royal Navy attend for the first time was excellent. It meant that there was a diverse range of opportunities available.

“To get more than 500 students along during the day – the most ever – makes all of the planning and hard work worthwhile and we were delighted with the outcome. We are hoping to repeat the success next year.”
