Creative canapés to fab filleting - UCB wins big at Hotelympia

Scores of students from UCB’s College of Food are celebrating after winning a medal at the biggest culinary and hospitality show in the UK.

From chefs on the prestigious Royal Academy of Culinary Arts (RACA) Apprenticeship and Level 2 and 3 Food and Beverage Service students to Culinary Arts Management undergraduates, no fewer than 21 UCB students saw success at this year’s Hotelympia.

Performing in the Restricted Live Class, Skills Theatre and Student Restaurant Classes of the show’s 100-plus competitions, the students brought home seven gold medals, 11 silver, two bronze and one Certificate of Merit.

  • Samuel Reynolds - Professional Cookery Diploma – Amuse Bouche – Gold

Chef lecturer and mentor Anthony Wright said: “The students worked exceptionally hard to prepare for their respective competition with the help and mentoring of the lecturers here at UCB. We are incredibly proud of our protégés and hope they got a lot out of competing on such a high profile, prestigious stage.”

This year’s Hotelympia, which brings thousands of businesses and buyers to market and champions one of the UK's most vibrant industries, took place at London’s ExCel.
