Lottie Lane

Hospitality with Events Level 3

Heading for hospitality success

Not many college students can say they undertook a placement at Marco Pierre White’s restaurant, but that’s exactly what Lottie got to do during her course at University College Birmingham.

And she is now firmly on her way to a career in her chosen field after progressing onto a degree in Hospitality Business Management at the University.

She said there were so many highlights of her college course, including a trip to France with snail tasting, Champagne tasting, a cellar tour and a day at Disneyland Paris.

“I also got to participate in different events and competitions, including a Marie Curie charity function at the ICC,” she said. “And my two-week placement at Marco Pierre White's restaurant allowed me to learn new skills and make connections within the industry.

“I had the opportunity to learn within a real-life environment at the two restaurants at UCB  and a bar serving food to the general public, completing many services and functions.

“All my lecturers were also ex-industry, which meant that the information they taught us was very relevant and up-to-date.

“The most significant opportunity I had was the chance to progress onto university, something I hadn’t considered before and isn't something many colleges can offer.”
