Engineering a dream career
Passionate about engineering, Finley applied to University College Birmingham through Clearing for a host of reasons.
He said: "I chose University College Birmingham because I already studied engineering here for two years as part of college, so I was already very familiar with the environment, and it was closest to my home.
"My teachers had told me about the BEng Electromechanical Engineering course here, and I already met the requirements, so I felt like it would be a great opportunity for me to stay on for another three years.
"I would have some of the same teachers from college, and I was already very familiar with the facilities here.
"I was very happy with my Clearing experience. University College Birmingham responded quickly, whereas some of the other universities I applied to took up to a month to respond, or I would not hear back from them at all.
"I appreciate how good they are when it comes to communication."
He said he decided to stay living at home because he was not that far from the University and didn’t feel comfortable about moving into accommodation just yet.
"I am really enjoying my time here at university," he said. "I felt like I never been away, and I’m very happy that I stayed.
"My course can be challenging, but it is worth the amount of time and effort you put into it."
