Welcome to University College Birmingham

Whether you are joining us as a new student or continuing your studies, we want to make sure you get off to a flying start. On this page, you will find your course-specific induction information, together with the information on additional welcome activities happening throughout the week. 

Please note: where applicable, Top-up (Level 6) student information will be shared with returning student information.

Induction information for new students

Further information specific to your course, including induction activities, any uniform/kit requirements and our Kick-Start scheme, is available below. Additional changes may be made to the schedules ahead of the welcome week, so please check this page again prior to w/c 22 September for any updates or amendments.

Tuesday 23 September

Meet your teaching team and classmates

Join us in a welcome talk with your teaching team. Within this talk you will receive information on your upcoming timetables, course information and the rest of your induction week. This session will provide an overview of your second year of study including key dates and timetables. It will also aim to establish the expectations of you as a Level 5 student. Within this session you will be given information regarding your tutor group and the room you will be in for the following session.

Department Sports Day
Location: Avery Fields, Avery Fields
Time: 12pm-2pm
Lecturer(s): All Sport Staff

Department sports day 
All students - sport, coaching and fitness, sports therapy, sport management, sports coaching and education, strength conditioning and sports nutrition. You will get to meet students from across the department, the Head of Department and all teaching staff. Enjoy the friendly competition and meet like-minded students in your fields of interest. Please come wearing appropriate kit for physical activity.

Support sessions

Throughout the welcome week, we have arranged our support teams to run different introductory sessions so you can learn about the support they offer and how to access it.

The support services involved include Disability and Neurodiversity Support, Mental Health and Wellbeing, academic support through the Centre for Academic Skills and English (CASE) and the Library. You can meet up with the Guild of Students (the student union at UCB) and learn about their work, and also explore the activities organised by the Student Engagement Team

Come along to WelcomeFest to celebrate the end of your induction programme.

WelcomeFest is an opportunity to meet new friends and become part of the UCB community.

Meet your tutor and understand clinical expectations
Meet your tutor! We will spend some time in our tutor groups. This is an opportunity to better get to know your tutor and fellow tutor group students. You will also complete some documents, and your tutor will outline the clinical expectations for the start of your academic year. There will be opportunities to voice any concerns or apprehensions and discuss ideas to overcome these. You can find your tutor group in the classrooms below:
