Induction information for new students
Further information specific to your course, including induction activities, any uniform/kit requirements and our Kick-Start scheme, is available below. Additional changes may be made to the schedules ahead of the welcome week, so please check this page again prior to w/c 8 September for any updates or amendments.

Monday 8 September
Meet your teaching team and classmates
Location: Join online meeting
Time: 6pm-8pm
Join us in a welcome talk with your personal tutor and programme lead, Jayne Hackett. During this talk, you will receive information on your upcoming timetables and course information. All the important details you need to know alongside a range of online interactive fun activities such as:
The Tree of Hopes and Fears: a fun group activity where you will build a tree of hopes and fears. This is an opportunity for you to interact with your fellow students and share your thoughts regarding the start of your academic journey. Designed for us to all have some fun and get to know each other.
CES discussion board: entitled ‘Getting to Know You, Getting to Know Us’ on the Childhood and Education Studies BA online programme site: CANVAS
The above will be a ‘live’ online session and we are keen to encourage attendance, where possible. On completion of induction, the recorded session will be available on the BA CES Level 4 Programme site for anyone who cannot attend live. You will also gain access to the Childhood and Education Studies (Online) onboarding hub.
Support sessions
Throughout the welcome week, we have arranged our support teams to run different introductory sessions so you can learn about the support they offer and how to access it.
The support services involved include Disability and Neurodiversity Support, Mental Health and Wellbeing, academic support through the Centre for Academic Skills and English (CASE) and the Library. You can meet up with the Guild of Students (the student union at UCB) and learn about their work, and also explore the activities organised by the Student Engagement Team.

Induction information for returning (continuing) students
Welcome back to the new academic year! Although you may be familiar with UCB by now, your lecturers have arranged activities for you during the welcome week. If you are joining this course as a Top-up, the Level 6 (final year) information is for you.

Level 5 (Year 2)

Welcome back! Grab a coffee and join your CES Level 5 personal tutor, Jane Bradford, for a relaxed and informative return session. There will be a recap of key information about your second-year programme and timetable, and some fun, interactive online activities to help you reconnect and ease back into study after the summer break:

A light-hearted activity where you upload or describe one image, object, or moment from your summer that connects (even loosely) to education, learning or personal growth.

🧭 The Study Safari
A fun academic refresher where you’ll find and share one academic source on a relevant topic and post a tip for managing reading loads on the CES Level 5 discussion board.
This will be a live session, and your participation would be greatly valued—especially as you’ll be working in teams later in the year! A recording of the session will be available on the BA CES Level 5 Programme site for anyone who cannot attend live.
You will also gain access to the Childhood and Education Studies (online) onboarding hub.
