Whether you are joining us as a new student or continuing your studies, we want to make sure you get off to a flying start. On this page, you will find your course-specific induction information, together with the information on additional welcome activities happening throughout the week.

Monday 09 February

Meet your teaching team and other new students

Join us for a welcome talk from your senior lecturer. Within this, you will be given information on life at UCB, the academic calendar, key dates, and the rest of induction week.

Tuesday 10 February

Meet our programme team and student colleagues
Location: Moss House (MS), MS107
Time: 10am-12pm
Lecturer(s): Nikky McGavin

Join us for a welcome talk from your programme and year tutor. Within this, you will be given information on the programme, timetables, and any other details relevant to your programme of study.

Wednesday 11 February

The Student Spotlight: A Conference by Students, for Students
Location: McIntyre House (MH), MH129
Time: 10am-3pm
Lecturer(s): Shivaun Caffrey

This conference will showcase what current students within the department are doing, and to also showcase the graduate careers of some of our former students.

Support sessions

Throughout the welcome week, we have arranged our support teams to run different introductory sessions so you can learn about the support they offer and how to access it.

The support services involved include Disability and Neurodiversity Support, Mental Health and Wellbeing, academic support through the Centre for Academic Skills and English (CASE) and the Library. You can meet up with the Guild of Students (the student union at UCB) and learn about their work, and also explore the activities organised by the Student Engagement and Success Team

Thursday 12 February • WelcomeFest

Time Session Location
9.30am-2.30pm

There will be a quiet hour with no music from 9.30am-10.30am.

Come along to WelcomeFest to celebrate the start of the semester!

WelcomeFest is an opportunity to meet new friends and become part of the UCB community. We have a fun-filled programme of activities including:

  • Student support facilities: Meet the teams able to help you during your studies
  • Looking for part-time work? Connect with the HIRED team
  • Music throughout the day

Come and say hello to the support services, the Engagement Team, and the Guild of Students. They will all be available to answer any questions you may have.
