Taylor Meah

Paramedic Science BSc (Hons)

Sky's the limit for aspiring paramedic

Taylor wanted to be a paramedic from an early age. Crucially, he wanted to study for his degree close to home at a university that offered lots of support, his ultimate goal being to work for the air ambulance.

When he found University College Birmingham, he was sold, the ultimate decider being lecturer and programme lead Claire, a passionate ex-paramedic who found her vocation while helping the injured as a bus driver in the 7/7 London bombings.

“The university offered the right resources to allow me to carry out my studies comfortably, and Claire displayed so much love for the course,” he said. “The University itself offered loads of support too, which was something that stood out to me.”

Taylor, who secured his university place through Clearing, said he had made lots of friendships in his learning journey so far.

“The friendships that have come my way have allowed me to study in a great atmosphere, where everyone helps each other and supports one another,” he said. “Outside my studies, these friendships have allowed me to explore and expand my view of university life, which I was a little unsure about at the start. This has allowed me to grow as a person.”

Would he recommend the University and the course? "Absolutely," he said. "I have been able to get involved in loads of different activities, which allows me to represent the university as a whole, and my message to other students interested in the course is, definitely go for it.

“It will build you into a completely different person and allow you to become the person you want to be.”

Taylor’s goal is to complete his degree, get the best grades he can and register as an HCPC registered paramedic. After that, even more.

“My future goal is to take my paramedic career down a different path, the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service,” he said. “This is my end goal and I can’t wait to make that happen.”
