Jessica Gibson

Level 3 Food and Beverage Supervision

Thriving at the top table

Jessica loved the idea of studying mixology, so after seeing the course on offer at University College Birmingham she jumped at the opportunity to learn a trade that aligned with her passion for food and drink.

Since beginning her studies Jessica has thrived, and has even been part of a team that brought home gold and silver medals from the prestigious Salon Culinaire competition.

“My studies taught me so much about the way restaurants operate, and the attention to detail needed to succeed in the industry,” she said.

“During the competition my lecturers helped a lot with my nerves. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without them.”

The chance to go on placement during her studies was another big draw for Jessica, as she looks to build on her successes so far.

“I already had the opportunity to work for a day in The Wilderness which was an amazing experience, and I’m hoping to secure a place with a Michelin-starred restaurant or high-end cocktail bar,” she said.

Looking to the future, she is considering moving on to university study in order to achieve her dreams.

“My ultimate goal is to open my own restaurant. I wouldn’t have even dreamt this was possible without my time at the college of food.”
