Grabbing every opportunity
By the time Ashley joined the sixth form, he had already spent time on campus through a Unifest experience that stayed with him.
“It was great to get a taste for the University, and I made friends I still speak to today,” he said.
“I booked an open day for the sixth form, and after the application and interview process, I got in!”
Since joining, Ashley has relished the chance to dive into his subjects and appreciates that his teachers are as passionate about the work as he is:
“The tutors are incredible. I have very strong relationships with them and am grateful for their support and guidance every step of my journey so far.”
While he is looking forward to the upcoming Culture Day celebrations, the undoubted highlight of Ashley’s sixth form journey so far has been the Turing Scheme-funded trip to Singapore.
“The trip was eye-opening and really widened my mind to environmental impact and how I can be a more conscious global citizen. I'd even go as far as to say it strengthened my morality.”
In the long-term Ashley hopes to pursue a university degree and possibly work in public health, but for now he’s enjoying his time at sixth form, and acting as school captain.
“Hopefully my subject choices will stand me in good stead to study for a degree in the health sector while leaving me options if I change my mind!”
