University College Birmingham staff have taken part in a 24-hour endurance event to promote positive physical and mental wellbeing and raise money for Breast Cancer Now as part of the ‘Health’ 100 challenge.
The challenge saw 60 staff from across the institution take part in various activities themed around ‘100’ for an entire month, while setting their own goals. For example, some climbed 100 stairs a day every day, or walked 100 miles with their dog, completed 100 mindfulness minutes or rowed 100 miles.
During the 24-hour endurance part of the event, which brought the challenge to a close, staff completed various activities within those 24 hours, such as 100 miles on the rower, 100 miles on the bike, 100 sled pushes on the track in the Human Performance Centre or 100 sets of 10 repetitions of 100kg squats. There was also a 100-stairs challenge in Moss House. An incredible £5000 was raised in total for Breast Cancer Now.
Carl Bennett, Senior Lecturer, Football Business Management & Sports Management Programme Lead, who organised the ‘Health’ 100 event said: “Personally, I would like to thank all staff who participated and supported the University College Birmingham ‘Health’ 100 event. The event proved that exercise and setting challenges are healthy methods of creating health and wellbeing for the hardworking staff of University College Birmingham. Thank you.”
