Step 1 – Complete your online registration

If you have been offered a place at University College Birmingham, you will be sent an email and text message from our Admissions team asking you to complete your online registration. The email you receive will contain a unique link specific to your offer, and the text message will contain your UCB Student ID, which you will need to register.

It is very important that you complete your online registration as this is the first part of your enrolment.

If you forget your password, you will need to email itsu@ucb.ac.uk stating the following;

  • Your full name
  • Your UCB student ID number
  • Your address
  • Your chosen course

How to complete online registration?

The webpage in the link provided in the email will require you to put in your personal details. As the link will be specific to you, the information you input on the webpage has to match what has previously been provided within your application. After this, you will need to select your subject area and then continue to create a password.

Important - if you have not received your email or text message, call our Admissions team on 0121 604 1040 or complete our enquiry form here, and we will help you activate your account and complete your online registration. Please make a note of your UCB student ID and password.

Doing this now will save you a lot of time later!

Step 2 – Upload your documents

Once you complete the online registration, you must upload your documents to the Student Dashboard. You will need to navigate to My Dashboard > Enrolment > Task > Upload ID Card Photo & Identity Documents. Make sure you upload ALL documents that are relevant to you, including:

  • Your chosen photo for ID (no Instagram or Snapchat filters, please. Let’s keep it professional!)
  • Your proof of ID – see below for the list of acceptable identity documents
  • Any residence evidence – e.g. your passport/residence documents, if relevant
  • Scans/clear photos of qualifications for any outstanding conditions
  • Any evidence of your name change (if your name is now different from the name on the documentation you provided to us) - e.g. a deed poll document or a marriage certificate. All our systems will use the name on your official documentation.

Your image will automatically be saved as soon as it has been uploaded.

A few things to note:

  • Do not email us your documents during this time. If you are having trouble uploading them, don’t worry, our Admissions team will call you to help you with this process.
  • The phone number we will be calling from is 0121 604 1000. Please ensure your email and phone contact details are up-to-date, as these are the credentials we will use to contact you.
  • Students with disabilities looking for additional support from the University are to submit their documents to the DNS team directly, not through this upload point.

The Admissions team will call applicants who have not yet uploaded their documents. Don’t worry if you miss our call, we will email you to say we’ve called and will call back later.

Before we can complete your enrolment, we require confirmation of the following:

  • You have sufficient funding (SLC) in place to cover your course (home students)* or
  • That you have paid 100% of your first-year fees (international students)
  • You have completed any in-person identity ('Right to Study') checks as required

After this point, all that’s left for you to do is to collect your UCB student ID card.

*Remember that it is YOUR responsibility to ensure your student loan is in place. If your loan is not fully approved at the time of enrolment, or if we are not clear on how you intend to pay your tuition fees, we will charge the cost of the tuition fees directly to you, and you will be informed of the dates that payment is required. If your tuition fee loan is approved at a later date and you have already made payments to the University in respect of your tuition fees, in that case, we will refund you upon release of payment from the Student Loans Company.

  • European Identity Card

If you do not have a passport, please upload your:

  • Full birth certificate

AND

Disability and neurodiversity support

How we can help you during induction and welcome week:

  • You can contact our Disability and Neurodiversity Support (DNS) team regarding your support plans and support in class. The DNS team is based on the ground floor of Baskerville House.
  • Should you wish to contact us or amend a plan, please emailDNSupport@ucb.ac.uk
  • If Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) providers are requesting a timetable from you or proof of timetable changes, you can notify us, and we can coordinate updates. We do not put DSA support into place, so you will need to contact DSA and external providers yourself.
  • You will meet members of our DNS team during Welcome Week and on our stand on Thursday 25 September 2025, during WelcomeFest
  • For reasonable adjustments, you will need to provide supporting documentation and/or have an initial conversation with us, so please contact the DNS inbox using DNSupport@ucb.ac.uk. For more information about the kinds of documentation we could use, click here. Please note, this isn’t exhaustive.
  • We also have study skills support for students not in receipt of DSA, run by our colleagues in Centre for Academic Skills and English (CASE). For more information about what is available, click here.

Check our dedicated welcome information for students with disabilities and additional needs.

Whether you are new to University College Birmingham or returning from a placement, our 'Preparing You for Study' courses are designed to get you ready for academic life. They'll introduce you to—or refresh your memory on—the key academic skills you'll need to succeed as a UCB student.

We have two versions of the course: one for undergraduates (levels 4, 5 and 6) and one for postgraduates (level 7).

  • Hear from staff and students who will share their tips and tell you what to expect from your time at UCB.
  • Boost your academic skills with a variety of lessons and check your understanding as you go.
  • Find your support network by learning about the amazing teams here to help you, including Mental Health and Wellbeing, Disability and Neurodiversity Support, and our Student Engagement team.
  • Get the practical info you need on topics like financial support, budgeting and staying safe.

The course takes about 60-90 minutes to complete, but you don't have to do it all at once! You can complete a few lessons, save your progress, and come back later.

Frequently asked questions

UCAS vs Direct?

If you’re planning on applying to multiple universities, you must apply via UCAS. You will need our institution name: BUCB and our institution code: B35.

If you already know you want to study at University College Birmingham, then you can make a direct application to us and you don’t need to go via UCAS. You don’t need to pay any fees, you won’t need to write a personal statement (UK students only) and you’ll receive a response within two working days.

What is a Top-up degree?

If you have previously studied at a higher education level (e.g. HND, Foundation degree or an NVQ Level 5) but don't yet have a full undergraduate degree, by studying for a further year at University College Birmingham, you can 'top-up' your course and achieve a full bachelor's degree.

Many of our undergraduate degree courses offer a 'top-up' option. Using credits from your previous studies, this means you only need to study the final year of our course in order to receive a full BA/BSc (Hons) degree in that subject, further enhancing your career prospects and also opening the door to postgraduate study.

Simply check the entry requirements under your desired top-up to confirm if your previous studies are suitable to progress with us – and if you're not sure, you can always contact us before you apply.

Is there an application deadline?

Most of our courses don’t have an application deadline for UK students; however, we would like you to start your course on time and would suggest you apply before the end of August if you’d like to start with us in September. We have capacity on some of our health courses (e.g. Nursing, Physiotherapy and Paramedic Science) and would therefore encourage you to apply by the UCAS equal consideration deadline.

Because of visa requirements, we have application deadlines for international students, which can be found here

When should I apply for my student loan?

As soon as possible, especially if you’re applying for a maintenance loan and would like to have access to the funds in your first term.

Further information about financing your studies is available here.

I don’t have any qualifications, can I still apply for a degree?

On some courses you may be able to use your experience to demonstrate a suitable level of skills. When you apply, you should attach your CV and a reference.

Do I need GCSEs to apply?

Some of our programmes require GCSEs, these include:

  • Aesthetics
  • Assistant Practitioner in Healthcare
  • Childhood and Education Studies
  • Computer Science
  • Construction Management
  • Cyber Security
  • Early Childhood Studies
  • Finance and Accounting
  • Food and Nutrition
  • Health and Social Care
  • Nursing (Adult, Mental Health, Nursing Associate)
  • Paramedic Science
  • Physiotherapy
  • Primary Education Studies
  • Psychology
  • Psychology with Sport and Exercise

Please check the ‘Entry requirements’ section of each course page for specific details.

Can I apply even if my predicted grades do not meet the tariff points required?

Yes, you can, and your application will still be considered. Your offer will be based on the requirements of the course; however, if your final results do not meet the requirements, we will suggest an alternative programme from our range of courses.

How can I accept my offer?

If you have applied via UCAS, you will be able to reply to your offers in your UCAS Hub. If you have applied directly, you have already confirmed that you only applied to University College Birmingham, therefore we assume that you have accepted your offer.

I'm worried about transition to university - what support is available?

If you struggle to transition to new learning environments and would like an early introduction to University College Birmingham, our Transition Day on 20 August may be for you. You will join a small group of students for an introduction to support available and to begin to find your way around, including an opportunity to ask questions and a friendly, informal tour to learning and teaching spaces on your course.

If you are a student moving from school or college where you have received SEN support for an autism spectrum disorder or you have complex disability needs, then this could be for you.

To book your place, click here.

When can I enrol?

We will write to you with enrolment instructions over the summer. In the meantime, the information you need is available here.

The course has already started, can I still enrol?

Contact admissions to clarify the reason for your late enrolment. The Admissions department will speak to the course tutor, and you will be informed of the outcome.

What are the term dates?

They can be found here.

How can I contact you?

If you haven’t received your offer letter, you’ve noticed an error on your application or have any other queries, please contact admissions on 0121 604 1040 or email admissions@ucb.ac.uk
