BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy

"I have vast experience working as a senior sports therapist in a private clinic, and I was part of the athlete recovery team at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where I supported competitors to manage injuries and recover between events."

I specialise in musculoskeletal anatomy, exercise rehabilitation and exercise physiology, and I teach on our Sports Therapy degree course. My sessions are a mix of theory and hands-on practice - you’ll rarely find us sitting still for long!

Alongside teaching, I work as a Senior Sports Therapist in a private clinic. I was also part of the athlete recovery team at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, supporting competitors in managing injuries and recovering between events. I have extensive experience teaching in further education on programmes related to Sports & Exercise Science, Sports Coaching and Development, and Sports and Fitness. I bring insights from all my experiences into the classroom, sharing case scenarios that allow students to learn how the theory applies directly to clinical environments and diverse sports settings.

What inspires me most about our field is the impact we can have on people’s lives. I find it incredibly rewarding to help someone recover from injury - whether it’s an athlete returning to compete or someone wanting to exercise without feeling pain. A common misconception I challenge is that sports therapists are physiotherapists or massage therapists. In reality, Sports Therapy is its own profession with a strong focus on musculoskeletal assessment, rehabilitation and performance.

Students come from all over the UK and beyond to study Sports Therapy at UCB, and I love hearing their stories and the reasons they choose the course. There’s also nothing quite like seeing students pass their exams - graduation day is a proud moment for me as well as them. Students often say they value my practical approach and the way I link classroom learning to real practice. I always try to be approachable and supportive as students develop their skills.

Outside of work, I have a keen interest in agriculture, having grown up on a farm. A fun fact about me is that I’ve trained sheepdogs. I like listening to British Journal of Sports Medicine podcasts during my commute. Finally, a phrase that sums up my outlook is: “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”
