Enterprising UCB graduates Lottie Lane and Angelina Adamo have been recognised as rising stars of the hospitality industry at the 2026 Acorn Awards.
Lottie, who graduated with a first class BA (Hons) degree in Hospitality Business Management in 2021, scooped the accolade for her work as a general manager at independent hospitality provider BaxterStorey – the company where she completed a placement while studying for her undergraduate degree.
Her UCB journey started with a Level 3 qualification in Hospitality, after which she moved on to an Extended Diploma before degree study, which included a placement year. After graduation, she was approached by BaxterStorey with a view to returning in a permanent role as a retail supervisor. From here, she became deputy manager before leaving to take up a position as a general manager at restaurant chain Benugo. After again returning to BaxterStorey to work as a retail manager, she achieved the position of general manager last year and immediately made her mark.
The win marks the continuation of a remarkable period of success for Lottie, who has recently achieved distinctions in both her MBA and Level 7 Senior Leader apprenticeship,
Angelina, chef-owner of restaurant group Vieni, graduated with a Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Professional Cookery in 2017. During lockdown, she was inspired to create chef hiring company Tutto Apposto, and its success led her to take over operation of Circle Lounge at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Following on from this, she opened Italian restaurant Vieni - her first bricks-and-mortar establishment - in the Jewellery Quarter.
Alongside this work, Angelina hosts dinners for women in the industry, and is a regional ambassador for the Burnt Chef Project while also raising money for Anawim.

A history of excellence
The prestigious award, now in its 40th year of honouring outstanding professionals, is run by industry magazine The Caterer and has previously celebrated another University College Birmingham alumnus. Daniel Bennett, who graduated with a first class degree in 2019, received the award for his work general manager at the Michelin-starred Heft inn and restaurant in Cumbria back in 2024. Daniel returned to UCB in 2025 to take up a position as lecturer, and is now inspiring the next generation of hospitality students.
This year’s winners, who were selected from a competitive field of more than 100 candidates by a panel of eight judges that included several former award recipients, were treated to a fun-packed weekend at the 20,000-acre Swinton Estate in North Yorkshire.
After being welcomed by a stellar selection of industry speakers, they were treated to a buffet lunch with specially-selected wines. After lunch, they took part in a game of Cryptic Chase before ending the day with a barbeque and drinks at the estate’s Deer House.
The following day saw a drinks reception in honour of the winners, before the weekend culminated in a three-course dinner at the hotel’s ballroom.

Angelina Adamo
Reflecting on the journey that brought her to this point, Lottie recalled her time at UCB, and the impact it had on her future:
"I learned from lecturers who had such a wealth of industry experience and a genuine passion for hospitality. They inspired and supported me throughout my studies, and their guidance has stayed with me throughout my career.
"This award is a meaningful recognition of the effort and commitment I bring to my role. It reflects not only my own work, but also the support and collaboration of my team. It motivates me to continue improving, setting higher standards and contributing even more positively. I truly hope that it can inspire current students to dream big and take every opportunity that comes their way."
Angelina added: "It means a lot to me. It’s a reflection of the work I’ve put in, the risks I’ve taken, and all the people who’ve supported me along the way.
"At the same time, it doesn’t feel like a finish line – it actually feels like a push to think bigger and keep going. I’m really grateful for the recognition and I see it as a reminder to keep building, making an impact and opening doors for others."
