University College Birmingham is one of the UK's leading universities for supporting students in securing high-quality placement opportunities
Placements are supported and administered by a team of Employability Tutors based within HIRED on the Ground Floor of Baskerville House.
The team aims to help students to obtain relevant work experience to complement their academic studies and to develop the appropriate skills, knowledge and experience to enable them to compete with advantage in their chosen industry
Resources offered by the Employability Tutors include:
- A team of staff with a wide range of knowledge and experience, dedicated to supporting students on their career journey
- Timetabled sessions and workshops to brief students on the range of opportunities available, support with applications and preparation for selection processes
- A vast network of organisations which the team work closely with to support students into industry
- Career specific resources available on Hired Connect including specific support for international students via our partnership with Student Circus
- Mentoring of students whilst on placement to support them in reaching their goals for the placement period. Often students who have completed placements will support students prior to them starting placement.
- At specific times throughout the year, employers, including from overseas locations, come to UCB to give presentations on placement opportunities within their organisations. In some cases, they then hold interviews with students wishing to apply on the same day. Students are recommended to attend as many of these presentations as possible in order to gain a wider understanding of the opportunities available. They also provide a chance for students to ask questions and clarify any queries directly with the employers, before deciding whether to apply.
The team is available from 9am to 5pm each weekday and is based in HIRED on the Ground Floor of Baskerville House.
