Access to Higher Education Diploma (Business)
Maria applied to University College Birmingham to explore business, experience a new city and find the right route into university.
One year on, she had secured a place to study finance at a Russell Group university for a future as a chartered accountant.
Maria chose the Access to HE Diploma in Business at UCB because it gave her a chance to test the subject before committing to a degree.
“I wanted to experience how the business field would be,” she said.
“It made it easier for me to choose what to do at university, while also gaining a qualification.”
UCB also gave her the independence of studying in a new city, supported by tutors who made learning engaging.
“The teachers made class fun,” she said. “I’ve always loved learning and trying new things.”
Discovering that finance brought together her strengths in maths and business, the course helped her make a clear choice of what she wanted to study as an undergraduate.
After university, she plans to complete her ACCA exams and become a fully chartered accountant.
“The diploma helped me gain useful insight into the business world,” she said. “It helped me choose what to do next.”
Her message to anyone thinking about Access to HE? “Be fearless. Go for it.”
