Get government funding for new apprentices
Apprenticeship training is usually funded through the apprenticeship levy. For employers who don’t pay the levy, they can still access government funding through the apprenticeship service to cover 95% of the training costs. In these cases, the employer is required to contribute the remaining 5% directly to the training provider - this is known as co-investment.
However, there are some exceptions where non-levy-paying employers can get 100% of the training costs covered (up to the funding band limit), without needing to contribute the 5%. These exceptions apply if:
- The apprentice is aged 16 to 21 when they start their training (or 15 if they turn 16 between the last Friday in June and 31 August).
- The apprentice is aged 22 to 24 and has an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan and/or has been in the care of their local authority.
These exemptions are outlined in the Apprenticeship Funding Rules.
