Deborah Madden

I have been working at University College Birmingham as an academic support worker since November 2021.

I have worked in education supporting students since 2008, and have had a passion for it ever since. I have worked as a specialist support assistant in secondary schools in Birmingham and Solihull, completing qualifications in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Education. I have supported students with a variety of additional needs including dyslexia, dyspraxia and ASD. My role also included working as an educational advocate and learning mentor, working with students on a one-to-one basis, giving students a go-to person who was there to lend an ear when things got too much, or when they needed help organising their workload or completing college applications or CVs.

Prior to working in education, my background was in science/engineering and audit/compliance of quality, safety and environmental management systems within the technology sector.

Outside of work, I am a member of the National Trust and enjoy nature and the outdoors, walking and cycling.
