"My commercial experience allows me to bring 'real life' examples to my students, which aids their understanding of theory and how it can be applied to a range of different business situations."

I teach on the Business Management and Business Enterprise courses across our undergraduate and postgraduate HE provision, and my interests lie in supply chain management, sustainability, big data, AI, and applied operations management.

I have over 45 years’ experience in manufacturing and supply chain, having been employed in global companies such as GKN, Alstom, AREVA, Schneider Electric, Massey Ferguson and the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS). I have continually developed my skills and knowledge in the development and implementation of improvement projects designed to enhance company profitability.

I moved into academia in 2014, and joined UCB in 2023 as a senior lecturer in the Business School. My commercial experience allows me to bring 'real life' examples to my students, which aids their understanding of theory and how it can be applied to a range of different business situations. I’m inspired by the ever-changing business environment, which demands continued development of business acumen and knowledge that I can apply to my teaching practice to keep it up-to-date and relevant.

It’s a common misconception that business demands a high level of expertise and specialisms, but there are many levels of business and there are a whole range of opportunities for graduates at all levels.

I am proud of being able to make the transition from a commercial environment into academia, and being able to chare my experience and knowledge with a wide range of students from a diverse range of backgrounds. I hope students find my classes engaging and stimulating. Perhaps the best compliment is that they appreciate the use of examples from my past commercial experience, which makes the subject real and understandable.

I always encourage students to work hard and spend time outside of the classroom developing their own understanding on the subjects taught, and try to help where possible by providing guidance to any available student support services.

Outside of work, I love reading science fiction, and have recently completed a 23 book series called 'SpinWorld'. I also enjoy Ballroom and Latin dancing and have competed in various competitions across the UK with my wife.

My favourite quote is: "Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value." — Albert Einstein
